It was another epic year for the annual Burbot Bash on Flaming Gorge Reservoir. The 2024 event had 801 participants between 243 teams and the competition saw over 3,100 burbot removed from the fishery! There was also a category for removing lake trout of which 319 were caught. Event organizers reported that this was the first year in the competition that they can remember that no one caught a tagged burbot and so that prize money was spread throughout the other categories. The winner of the biggest burbot went to Triston Stanleyson with a 34.5 inch burbot. Carson Richins took home the cash for the smallest burbot that measured only 3.7 inches. The winning team was the ‘Burbot Shop Quartet’ that caught 181 burbot. Over $40,000 dollars was given out in cash and prizes.
