For nearly 2 decades, Community Holly Days has given Uintah Basin families a reason to host Thanksgiving at their home with the promise of free fun all over Vernal the next day. This year will be no different with events running downtown, at the Western Park, and outside Ashley Regional Medical Center for their Christmas Charity Village. Rewind 19 years to what led up to the creation of the Christmas focused festival and there was some practical motivation behind it all. Back when Glade Allred was serving as the event Chairman, he explained that the idea behind Holly Days was to have an entirely sponsored event so it could be free for all and no child would be left out. The event was also to encourage people to stay in the area to do their shopping on the busiest shopping day of the year. The idea has not only kept more locals local, it has also attracted visitors from the region and far beyond to make Holly Days an annual tradition for kicking off the holiday season.
