New local cases of COVID-19 have brought the overall total of confirmed cases for the TriCounty Health District to 16 as of the Sunday Situational Update on www.tricountyhealth.com. Uintah County now has 7 overall total confirmed cases with 6 listed as Recovered. Duchesne County now has 9 total cases with 4 Recovered. So far there has only been 1 hospitalization that Uintah Basin Medical Center confirmed was a patient who was treated and released shortly after. There have been no confirmed cases in Daggett County or within the Ute Indian Tribe. The estimated tests conducted in the tri-county area as of Sunday evening was 2,959. The University of Utah announced on May 6th the start of the Utah HERO project that will test 10,000 Utahns with a swab test for coronavirus and a blood test to detect antibodies that would indicate probable past infection. It will initially be performed across Utah, Davis, Salt Lake, and Summit Counties. The sampling will be random and aiming to determine how much COVID-19 has spread in Utah without testing every person in the state. The program’s name of HERO stands for Health & Economic Recovery Outreach.
