The Cougar Boys Basketball team, under coach Gordon Garrett, will kick off their season on Tuesday the 20th by hosting rival Uintah, they'll travel to Emery the next Tuesday before heading north to attend the Bear River Winter Classic where they will challenge Bear River, North and South Summit at the end of the month.
The Cougar boys played late Saturday eveningentering the Tournament as the number 2 seed from Region 14 taking on the number 4 seed from Region 13, Grantsville. The Cowboys jumped off to the early lead and the Cougars just couldn't make up the difference as the Cowboys beat the Cougars 68-59. The Dinos took off to the first quarter lead, but the Cougars dominated the second and third quarters outscoring the Dinos 25-12 during that stretch. Both offenses came to life in the fourth with the Dinos scoring 17, but the Cougs fired back with 19 to take the 56-43 win. The Cougars battled the Spartans in Roosevelt on Friday, December 29th. Union scored 40 points in the first half to gain a 1 point lead at halftime, Union 40 - Emery 39. Ty Gillman lead all scorers with 23, but the Cougars fell behind early and couldn't fight back in the 68-61 loss. Tuesday they hosted the Summit Academy Bisons out of Bluffdale.
