Uintah Utes vs Springville Red Devils
September 23rd, 2016
After a week of rain the Uintah Utes were looking for a bright start to their Homecoming weekend. Hosting the Red Devils from Springville, who were ranked 10th in the state, the Utes had their hands full. The game started with homecoming festivities including the game ball and the homecoming King and Queen being flown in to mid field by Classic Air Medical.
When the game started the first two Ute possessions ended up in 14 quick points for the Red Devils, with a short 6 yard drive after an interception and a fumble returned for a touchdown. After the Red Devils scored their 3rd touchdown on a 41 yard pass from QB Thorpe to Rhymer the Utes defense dug in and stopped the Devils on their next possession creating a turnover following a failed 4th down conversion. The Ute offense came to life given a short field, and after converting their own 4th down attempt running back Mike Jones punched the ball in from 3 yards out.
By halftime, the Red Devil lead had ballooned to 40-7. Each team scored on their opening possessions of the second half, with Ute Kicker Treven McKeachnie continuing his strong season hitting a 29 yard field goal. The Red Devils finished off the scoring with another 40 yard touchdown pass. The final score of the game was 54-10.
The Utes backup QB Brodie Franks had surgery on his hand, but was present at the game and flew the game ball in as homecoming King… The Utes only gave up 40 yards in penalties to 80 for the Red Devils… The halftime show featured the marching band who played a long medley and also opened the game with a stirring rendition of the National Anthem… The Utes blocked or stopped 4 point after conversions attempted by Springville.
