The Duchesne Eagle football team traveled to Weber State last Saturday to take on the Milford Tigers for the 1A State Championship. The Eagles and Tigers met up previously with the Tigers getting the win, Milford was also undefeated going into the game.Unfortunately for the Eagles, things didn't go their way early in the game giving up the ball with turnovers four times. The Tigers built a 45 to zero lead, before the Eagles scored two late touchdown on a 60 yard pass to Gavin Davis from Kason Grant and a 25 yard link-up between Davis and Grant to end the game at 45 to 14. The Duchesne Eagle football team traveled to Payson High School last Saturday, for the 1A Semifinal match-up against Parowan.The game proved to be a defensive battle as neither team was able to score in the first half. In the third quarter, on third down and 12 Kason Grant threw a pass that was tipped then caught by Kaleb Sanchez, who ran it in for a 52 yard touchdown reception, giving the Eagles a 7-0 lead. The Eagles defense held until late in the fourth quarter when Parowan's Wood connected with Jeffries for a 33 yard touchdown with 12 seconds left to tie game.

 

The Duchesne Eagle football team traveled to Layton Christian Thursday. Layton Christian scored in the first quarter, after that it was all Duchesne as the reeled off 35 unanswered points to beat the other Eagles 35-6. The Duchesne Eagles finished first in Region 16 and will start the 1A State Tournament by hosting the Kanab Cowboys Friday.

The Duchesne High School football team traveled to Altamont on Thursday the 12th. They shut the Longhorns out 20-0. Jaren Mortensen and Skyler Ford combined for 2 rushing touchdowns. Weston Poulson had 16 carries for 109 total yards and Skyler Ford carried for a total of 91 yards. Jarett Spencer, Duchesne’s quarterback, threw for 57 yards and 1 touchdown. The eagle’s defense was also very strong. Kade Lamborn led the team in tackles. Kade Lamborn, Weston Poulson, and Skyler Ford each had 1 interception.

Having been shut out by Kanab in September the Eagles prepared hard for the game.      Kanab drew first blood with a touchdown in the first quarter, iin the second the Eagles countered with a one yard run by Weston Poulson. Kanab kicked a field goal at the end of the first half to take a 10-6 lead. Neither team scored in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter Jarett Spencer connected with Jaren Mortensen with a 33 yard toucdown pass a kick from Kade Lamborn put the Eagles up 13-10. With 2 minutes and 40 seconds left in the game and Kanab threatening Ammon Graehl intercepted a pass and ran it back 80 yards for an Eagle touchdown, giving the Eagles a 19-10 lead. Kanab scored, but their on-side kick failed and the Eagles were able to take a knee to secure the 19-17 victory and the 1A State Championship. Great job Eagles!    Barry Johnson

The Duchesne Football team took on the Milford Tigers in the semi finals last Friday at Weber State. The Eagles scored early and often amassing 40 points in the first half starting with two touchdown runs by Weston Poulson the first a 47 yarder.  To start the second quarter Chad Lewis caught a 21 yard touchdown pass from Jarett Spencer.  Then Steven Skewes had an 85 yard touchdown run, then Jaren Mortensen caught a TD pass from Spencer then Clay Giles and Skyler Ford ran for touchdowns as the Eagles caged the Tiger 47-0. The Eagles will travel to Cedar City to take on Kanab in the 1A State finals at Southern Utah University. The Duchesne Football team hosted the Monticello Buckaroos in the quarterfinals of the 1A State Championships.  The Eagles scored first with a six yard run by Steven Skewes, the Clay Giles caught a TD pass from Skewes to give the Eagles the 14-0 halftime lead. The Eagles broke it open in the third quarter with touchdown runs by Weston Poulson, Skewes and capped off by a 45 yard touchdown by Ammon Graehl. The Buckaroos managed a touchdown in the fourth quarter, but it was all Duchesne in the 35-6 victory.  The Eagles will take on the Milford Tigers in the semi finals this Friday at Weber State.

The Duchesne Football and Altamont Football teams competed Wednesday nightin Duchesne to finish off the regular season.  Steven Skewes go the Eagles rolling with a 5 yard touchdown run, the eagles then exploded scoring 39 points in the first quarter with touchdowns by Clay Giles, Weston Poulson and Gatlin Thompson ran in a punt blocked by Sergio Anaya. Later Skyler Ford scored two touchdowns and Jarett Spencer linked up with Jaren Mortensen for another in the 55 to 6 Eagle victory.  Zack Hanson scored the touchdown for the Longhorns.
