One local woman is changing lives one radio ad at a time. Sheree Meyer’s journey to graduation from USU-Uintah Basin included not only her Family, Consumer & Human Development coursework but a crash course in radio as a tool to strengthen marriages and families in Basin communities. Sheree first became involved in developing and participating as one of the hosts on USU professor Dr. Law’s Marriage and Family Program on KVEL. “Under the direction of Dr. Law, I have had the opportunity to find topics that are important to our community and their family relationships,” shares Sheree. She then researched and created outlines for the weekly show that she helped to host. The most rewarding part of being part of the show, shares Sheree, is hearing the positive reaction of people listening in the Basin. Sheree’s involvement in radio didn’t stop there, however. As she approached graduation it came time for Sheree to choose a practicum experience project and the idea was born for The Family Moment that is now a daily feature on both KVEL and KLCY. The Family Moment is a series of 1 minute radio ads that focus on topics of how Basin families can do a little better within their families and around the people we love. From crucial communication advice for married couples to parenting advice, The Family Moment is touching hearts in our community thanks to Sheree’s desire to make a difference.
