West Nile Virus Precautions

With West Nile Virus confirmed locally, TriCounty Health Department always encourages appropriate precautions for residents and their livestock. Remember that the mosquitos that carry West Nile Virus bite from dusk to dawn. Wear long pants and sleeves, use repellents with DEET or Picardin, and remove any standing water around your home where mosquitos can breed. Horse owners can ask their vet about vaccinations and can protect their animals the same way humans are protected; by applying approved repellents to the horse and controlling mosquitoes and their breeding areas.
