Vernal Man Sentenced on Child Pornography Charges

A Uintah County man arrested last April and convicted of 40 charges related to child pornography was sentenced this week in 8th District Court. In August, Jeffrey Levi Batty pleaded Guilty to 40 counts of 2nd Degree Felony Sexual Exploitation of a Minor. According to court documents, a Vernal City Police Detective found that a Vernal resident was sharing and viewing child pornography  pictures and videos including infants and a video depicting “a pre-pubescent female being raped by an adult male.” On April 4th, a search warrant was obtained for the Vernal location and investigators made contact with suspect Jeffrey Batty. Batty was cuffed while investigators accessed his computer where numerous files were located containing child pornography. Batty was sentenced on Tuesday this week and received up to 15 years in prison for each count, however, Judge McClellen suspended 36 of the 40 prison terms.
