A Uintah County man being held on 40 charges related to child pornography could face
additional charges. According to court documents, a Vernal City Police Detective found
that a Vernal resident was sharing and viewing child pornography pictures and videos
including a video depicting “a prepubescent female being raped by an adult male.” On
April 4th, a search warrant was obtained for the Vernal location and investigators made
contact with suspect Jeffrey Batty, who was armed with a .45 caliber handgun on his
right hip. Batty was cuffed while investigators accessed his computer where numerous
files were located containing child pornography. Batty was placed under arrest and
booked into Uintah County Jail on 40 counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, each 2nd
degree felonies. Batty was in court last week and a Certificate of Providing Additional
Discovery was filed that could result in additional charges. Judge Clark McClellan
scheduled a new preliminary hearing for August 9th. Batty remains in custody at the
Uintah County Jail.
