Vernal Airport Runway Project Funding Agreements

The Uintah County Commission approved signature for a federal grant agreement during Monday’s Commission meeting. Work on the Vernal Regional Airport runway project has already begun. The federal grants total $27.7 million dollars toward the project. Uintah County is responsible for the remaining 5 percent of the cost at a total of $1,462,665 dollars of which $508,000 dollars have already been spent. Commissioner Mike McKee proposed that Uintah County sign the agreement and accept the grant funding. “This is a project we have worked on for many years,” shared McKee, who emphasized that property taxes are not paying for even the county’s small portion. That portion is being covered by the Uintah Transportation Special Service District. The Commission approved signature of the form unanimously.
