Ute Tribe Press Conference in Washington, D.C. Outlines Opposition to PLI

Key members of Ute Tribe leadership were in Washington, D.C. this week as they continue to oppose Congressman Rob Bishop’s Public Lands Initiative. On Tuesday, Ute Business Committee Chairman Shaun Chapoose spoke at the Ute Tribe press conference outside the U.S. Department of the Interior building. The Ute Tribe says the Public Lands Initiative would “steal more than 100,000 acres of the Ute Indian Tribe’s Reservation lands for the State of Utah and impact the Tribe’s sovereignty, jurisdiction and water rights across another 300,000 acres.” H.R. 5780, the public lands initiative, passed committee and supporters are hopeful it will move on to the Senate.
