Uintah School Board District 2 Candidates

Candidates for Uintah School Board presented at the Vernal Area Chamber luncheon on Tuesday. For District 2, Kevin Dickson and Sharon E. Bills each took some time to introduce themselves and answer questions. Both have extensive experience in the Uintah School District, Dickson as an educator and administrator and Bills as a classified employee in transportation. When asked what the most important issue is facing the District, Dickson spoke about the budget and the importance of properly managing resources while making sure that the kids are the top priority. Bills spoke about handling bullying and providing safe schools with a healthy learning environment. When asked what ideas each had on how to put students first, Bills emphasized the need for quality teachers that are passionate about their job. Dickson mentioned busing as a challenge and emphasized the need for synergy to work as a team on every level. He paid the community and school district a great compliment, stating that our “schools are a reflection on the community and we raise great kids.”

Kristin never planned to work in news radio but has thoroughly enjoyed being part of the news team at KVEL. Her love of literature and writing developed in high school which led her to study English Literature and Technical Writing at BYU. She received her BA in English from BYU in 2005 and studied at UVU in Orem for 2 semesters to become a Certified Technical Writer in 2006. Two months after completion she began her dream job of being a stay-at-home mom.  As mother of 2 energetic kids, she began writing from home for the KVEL news team in 2011 and considers it the perfect fit as a full time mom and part time writer.
