The Uintah Heritage Museum has been awarded the Utah Museums Association’s 2016 Award for Excellence in Operations. The Utah Museum Association gives this award based on superior achievement within Utah’s museum community. The award program explains that “over the course of the last few years, Uintah County has significantly improved how its museum operates, from collections care to administration. The museum’s staff continues to professionalize their practices, ensuring that staff and volunteers have access to the professional development that they needed in order to better manage the museum.” Uintah Heritage Museum staff have remained engaged in programs with the Utah Humanities and Division of Arts and Museums.  It was announced in 2013 that the Western Heritage Museum located at Western Park would move to the old library location in the Uintah County building. The museum was renamed the Uintah Heritage Museum and efforts to update practices and expand displays have been ongoing at the museum since.
