The Utah Department of Transportation has announced plans for a Highway 40 project west of Vernal. The McCoy Flats turnoff was the site of a tragic fatal accident last spring that drew additional attention to the dangerous conditions in that area. According to UDOT Region 3 Communications Manager Eileen Barron, UDOT is currently working on design plans to widen Highway 40 in that area to accommodate left turn lanes in both directions and widen shoulders at McCoy Flats. “We expect construction to take place in late-summer of 2017,” shares Barron. The construction cost is estimated to be approximately $850,000 dollars.
