Track Team’s Bus Ride Home Comes to a Muddy Stop

The ride home for the Uintah High girls track team came to a muddy halt late
Wednesday night
in Wasatch County. The team was returning from a region meet at Mountain View High School when a flat tire caused the bus to come to rest in the mud against a hillside along Highway 40, making it impossible to open the front door of the bus. “We don’t know exactly what the bus hit. We think it was a rock in the road,” shares Uintah Schools Superintendent Mark Dockins. “Whatever they ran over flattened the tire.” Everyone was able to get off the bus through the emergency exits, explains Dockins, and no injuries were reported. Three other Uintah School District buses were in the area returning from events and they were able to pick up the occupants of the disabled bus. They made it back to the high school
at about 1am Thursday
. District transportation employees repaired the tire
Thursday morning
and were able to drive the bus back to Vernal. Dockins commended the drivers and coaches for their professionalism and for making sure the students were safe.
