Slew of Burglaries Solved in Vernal City and Uintah County; 19-Year-Old Vernal Man Arrested

A 19-year-old Vernal man has been arrested and booked into the Uintah County Jail on multiple charges with more to come. According to a Vernal City Police press release, Steven McCarrel was arrested on July 30th and is being held on charges including theft, vehicle theft, and burglary. “This investigation involved burglaries, thefts, criminal mischief, and the theft of four motor vehicles which occurred on different dates involving numerous victims and locations,” shares Vernal Police. “The investigation began when a report was filed with the Vernal Police Department regarding a burglary, a theft, and the theft of a motor vehicle from the Uintah Middle School. At the conclusion of the investigation it was determined that McCarrel had committed 7 business burglaries, 6 thefts, 4 vehicle thefts, 3 criminal mischiefs, and 1 attempted business burglary.” Additional charges against McCarrel are pending for additional offenses. The investigation has been a combined effort by the Vernal Police Department and the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office.
