The Utah State Republican Convention was held on Saturday in Salt Lake City. The Senate District 26 race came down to the two Uintah Basin candidates, Ron Winterton and Brian Gorum with Gorum taking the majority in the final vote. There were 153 delegates voting. In the second round of voting, Winterton received 40.5 percent, Gorum received 34 percent, and Alisa Ellis received 23.5 percent of the votes. Ellis had chosen not to seek the 2000 signatures stating that she believed in the caucus system. She was eliminated during the second round. Jack Ruben was eliminated during the first round but said the race is far from over as he had gathered the required number of signatures. Gorum, Winterton, and Ruben will be on the ballot for the June 26th Primary.
