The search for a man presumed drowned in Flaming Gorge has been suspended due to severe winter weather. The Daggett County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to a suspicious vehicle on the boat ramp at Cedar Springs Marina at 8:30am on Friday, January 20th. Deputies responded and found a truck with a boat trailer backed into the water and the truck running while the boat was loose from the trailer. It appeared that the 59-year-old male occupant of the vehicle may have had problems unloading the boat and fell into the water. He was presumed drowned and recovery efforts began. Multiple agencies joined the search including the Department of Public Safety who joined to assist with the underwater search effort using sonar equipped boats. Deseret News reports that along with the announcement that the search has been suspended until weather cooperates, the Daggett County Sheriff’s Office says there have also been problems with the underwater equipment. Additional sonar technology has been requested. The victim’s identity will not be released until the search and investigation is complete.
