Roosevelt City Council met on Tuesday night and several rates of service were discussed and two were changed. The Council approved an increase in garbage rates due to the Blue Bench landfill rate increase by 25 percent. The rate increase by K&K Sanitation is $2 per 1st residential garbage can as well as an increase on dumpster rates in order to compensate for the added expense for the City to use the landfill. The increase in rate is effective January 1st. The Council also increased the residential sewer rates in the amount of $5.75 per month also effective January 1st. The decision was made based on a need to help shore up the sewer collection and treatment fund. “As the city continues to work to maintain a positive financial position,” shares Roosevelt City, “it continues to review costs and revenues of all aspects of the city. While the costs of providing sewer collection and treatment have been going down each year for the past 3 years, it has necessitated a fund performance evaluation. Evaluation shows the fund has maintained an operating loss of at least each of the past 5 years.” The City Council also discussed the golf course rate, however, no rate change was made by the City Council during Tuesday’s meeting.
