Rocky Mountain Power Gives Wildfire Safety Tips for Those in Service Area

by | Sep 18, 2018 | News | 0 comments

As a utility server in northeastern Utah, Rocky Mountain Power is offering wildfire safety tips during this time of high wildfire risk. On your property, arrange trees and shrubs in a way that makes it difficult for fire to transfer from fuel source to fuel source. Focus on the first 30 to 50 feet around your house by removing burnable debris like dried leaves, dead tree branches, and stacks of firewood. Consider installing non-combustible roofing and siding materials. Make sure the rooftop gutters are clear and screened to prevent accumulation of dried debris. Electrical safety includes checking any electrical connections on your property in outbuildings and check any temporary lines running to recreational vehicles. Rocky Mountain Power does their part to reduce wildfire risk by mapping its service area to highlight areas of elevated wildfire risk, pruning to ensure clearance between energized lines and the trees, having additional inspections by air or ground when a fire is threatening a structure, and performing an electric stability analysis when lines are in danger.
