Rocky Mountain National Park to Feature Tribal Relationships

The Ute Tribe has deep roots in the Rocky Mountain region and is among several tribes invited to offer input on a historical makeover for a national park in Colorado. The University of Colorado Public Outreach and Community Engagement program announced this week that Rocky Mountain National Park is exploring how to better represent indigenous histories into the park exhibits and information shared. The Center of the American West and the Center for Native American Indigenous Studies hosted a workshop where updating exhibits to more accurately represent the region’s history was the focus. While the Ute Tribe of the Uintah and Ouray Reservation and other tribes were unable to attend the initial workshop, additional meetings are being scheduled to receive input from the tribal nations that have ties to the land now considered Rocky Mountain National Park.
