Roads Closed in Sweetwater County for Massive Snow Drifts

Roads around Rock Springs have endured extreme conditions this month but a new danger closed roads over the weekend. According to the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office, travel along several roads were dangerous due to severe snow and wind that resulted in massive drifts in and across roadways. The Yellowstone Road corridor was closed and then only reopened to limited traffic under extreme caution. Drifts blocking roadways were taller than most vehicles. “While conditions have improved, everyone driving throughout the County should exercise care and caution,” says Sheriff Mike Lowell. “If you encounter a drift on the road, avoid trying to slam through it. If you become stuck, then county blades, dozers, and loaders cannot clear the drift until your vehicle is freed.” Road condition updates are available at www.wyoroad.info.
