"Remember the Fallen" 5K in Gurr's Memory

5 years ago today, local hero Sgt. Daniel Gurr was fatally shot while on patrol in Afghanistan. While honored as a fallen soldier, it is easy for many in the community to still recall Daniel as the captain of the Uintah High School soccer team known for his enthusiasm for life and broad smile. In the last 5 years, many ceremonies and acts of service have been held in remembrance of Daniel’s sacrifice. Tonight is another such opportunity as the community is invited to remember him as well as all fallen soldiers at a 5K event, on the 5 -year anniversary of Daniel’s death. The event will be a nighttime 5K followed by a candlelight vigil at the Vernal Cemetery, which Daniel’s mother Tracy Beede says will be especially meaningful because most of Sgt. Gurr’s battalion has traveled to Vernal to attend. The “Remember the Fallen” 5K walk/run will be held at Uintah High School tonight, August 5th at 8pm. Get registered atwww.raceentry.com or register on site before the race.
