Education is the key when it comes to suicide prevention and events this weekend are pushing to help community members. On Friday, September 22nd, the Talk Saves Lives class will be offered at the Uintah County Library
at 5pm
to kick off the events. Talk Saves Lives is a 50 minute program with slides providing questions and answers about suicide prevention.
On Saturday morning
, the Out of the Darkness Walk will start from the Vernal Park Colton Pavilion. There’s no registration fee and the walk is pet friendly with leashes. Suicide prevention has become an important topic locally and volunteers from the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention are leading the way in promoting education. Rick Robbins, a volunteer with the foundation, says that he knows first hand the devastation of suicide. After suffering the tragedy of losing a son, Rick said he felt “there needs to be a change” and wanted to find ways to help others so they don’t have to go through what he went through. “We want to let everyone know it’s okay to talk about suicide and it’s okay to be broken but you can reach out to someone you trust,” shares Rick. Anyone can also reach out to the suicide hotline at

for personal help or with questions to help a loved one. All are encouraged to attend this weekend’s events
5pm tonight
at the Uintah County Library and
9am Saturday
at the Vernal Park Colton Pavilion.
