Division of Wildlife Resources has the scoop on local fishing hotspots. Multiple locations including Big Sandwash, Currant Creek, Long Park, Matt Warner, Pelican Lake and Steinaker are reporting GOOD fishing. Best reports come from Flaming Gorge and Starvation Reservoir for certain species. According to DWR biologist Alex Hansen, fishing is great for smallmouth bass in Flaming Gorge. Smallmouth are the most active right now and can be caught using a variety of methods including jigs, drop shot rigs or try top water poppers early and late in the day. Hansen reports that surface activity can be exceptional this time of year. Fishing for all species is good right now in Starvation Reservoir with plenty of reports of walleye around 16 to 25 inches. Reports of nighttime fishing have had success with crankbaits or jigging. Rainbow trout fishing is expected to pick up with cooler weather patterns.
