With the hiring process complete, Obern Mayes was presented as the new Vernal City Treasurer at the Vernal City Council meeting on Wednesday. Some shifting of positions in Vernal City’s finance department left the City Treasurer position open earlier this summer. According to Vernal City Manager Ken Bassett, the City Treasurer position is only 1 of 2 positions in the City that require the approval of the City Council before the job offer can be officially extended. After an extensive interview and testing process, Finance Director Mike Davis recommended Obern Mayes to the Council in July for hire as the new City Treasurer. Davis stated that Mayes was one of two candidates that were highly qualified and ultimately Mayes was determined to be the most qualified after follow up interviews and a written finance test. Vernal City Council welcomed Obern Mayes as the new City Treasurer during Wednesday’s City Council meeting.
