UDOT has started construction on the new bridge on SR-45 south of Vernal that will allow the southernmost stretch of roadway to reopen. According to the UDOT announcement
on Thursday
, the 157-foot bridge will span an eroded mining trench to reconnect the road and allow the highway to reopen by mid-December. “SR-45 is important for the local economy, as trucks from the mining and energy industries, as well as outdoor enthusiasts, frequent the route,” shares UDOT project manager Larry Montoya. “Constructing a new bridge now will address the erosion, provide a safe, long-term solution, and allow the roadway to be opened this winter.” The road was closed near Bonanza in July 2015 when erosion was discovered near the roadway.
