Multiple Agencies Respond to “East Whiterocks” Fire

Multiple agencies responded to the “East Whiterocks” fire on Wednesday afternoon. According to the BIA Wildland Fire-Uintah & Ouray Agency, the wildland fire started northeast of Whiterocks and units from LaPoint-Tridell and Neola Fire Departments as well as Bureau of Indian Affairs, Bureau of Land Management, and U.S. Forest Service all responded to the fire. As of Wednesday night, the fire was reported as 50 percent contained and it was estimated at 100 acres. For the period of a few hours Wednesday evening, the Uintah County Office of Emergency Management asked citizens in Tridell to be prepared for the possibility of an evacuation depending on circumstances with the fire. By 9pm, residents were told they were no longer required to be on alert for possible evacuation.
