Meeker Fire Nearly Contained

The Mile Marker 24 Fire east of Meeker is contained. The blaze started after a Controlled Burn of ditches on private land got out of control on Tuesday. On Wednesdaynight, the fire was 80 percent contained. By late Thursday morning, the fire was 95 percent contained and reached full containment on Thursday. Mop up operations started up and all resources were de-mobalized by the end of the day. The fire was mapped using GPS at a total of 77 acres with most of those spreading on private land and a few located on the White River National Forest. Several agencies worked on the fire including the Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Management, the U.S. Forest Service, and the Juniper Valley/Buena Vista Hand Crew, among others.
