Basin residents were
disturbed
in the fall of 2016 when a case of kidnapping, trafficking, and sexual abuse surfaced that allegedly took place at a Duchesne County cabin. Jared Stephen Morgan was arrested on September 22nd, 2016 and the story emerged through court documents that Morgan had allegedly locked a girl in a shed in Duchesne County for days and was only given food if she would eat rat feces and drink urine. The court documents also stated that Morgan allegedly forced the 18-year-old girl to perform sexual acts for food and water and also used a taser on her for sexual acts. After a series of plea deals over the last year, 38-year-old Morgan pleaded no contest to third degree felony forcible sexual abuse last week in 8th District Court. He was sentenced to serve one year in jail and was given credit for his time served as he has resided in the Duchesne County Jail for the last year. The same day he was released, Morgan was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for sex abuse charges in a separate case also involving a teen girl. He faces 16 felonies in that case which will have its first scheduling conference later this month.
