Juvenile Drives Car Into Unoccupied Silver Pines Unit; DUI Suspected

Residents at Silver Pines Condominiums in Vernal were shocked Saturday morning to discover a massive hole in the outer wall of a first floor rental unit. According to Vernal City Police, officers were dispatched to 860 South Vernal Avenue at 7:15am on June 9th regarding extensive damage caused when a vehicle collided with the front of Apartment #R103. “This apartment was empty and unoccupied at the time of the incident,” shares Vernal PD. “Investigation at the scene determined that between 3am and 7am, a vehicle crossed the sidewalk and a small section of grass colliding with the apartment building. Evidence at the scene led Officers to an additional unoccupied vehicle which had been damaged and to the suspect vehicle. The suspect vehicle had extensive front end damage.” At their original announcement to the public, Vernal Police said they were still attempting to identify the driver and that alcohol was believed to be a factor in the incident. Late Saturday afternoon, Vernal Police provided an update, stating that the driver, a juvenile female, had been located and that she will be referred to juvenile court. Charges are pending and being screened with the Uintah County Attorney’s Office.
