Tomorrow is the big day for Uintah Basin Special Olympians who are ready to compete in the Bocce Ball Tournament of the North Eastern Utah Division of Special Olympics. While less well-known locally, this annual event hosts an average of 100 to 120 competitors from the Uintah Basin with many advancing to state competition. While there’s been a lack of a cheering section in the past, it is actually a fantastic opportunity for the community to show their support of local Special Olympians by coming and cheering, shares event volunteer Ron Allred. Allred is a father of one of the competitors and also an employee of Anadarko Petroleum which provides volunteers to set up the courses and act as field judges. This year, Anadarko is also providing the athletes with lunch and gift bags. Add even bigger smiles to these Olympians faces by coming to cheer them on starting at 9:30am on Wednesday, September 19th, at the KOA soccer fields in Vernal, 1680 West Highway 40. State competition will be held October 19th and 20th in Salt Lake City.
