The Division of Wildlife Resources are once again urging locals to get out and try some ice fishing, this time providing their list of the best locations in northeastern Utah for success. “In my opinion,” shares Sport Fisheries Coordinator Randy Oplinger, “Utah has some of the best ice fishing in the country. The state provides a wide variety of fish to catch. And many of these opportunities are close to your home.” In no particular order, Basin ice fishing spots include Brown’s Draw Reservoir for rainbow, brown and tiger trout; Steinaker Reservoir for rainbow trout, bluegill and largemouth bass; Starvation Reservoir for walleye, rainbow trout and yellow perch; and Flaming Gorge Reservoir for rainbow and lake trout, burbot and smallmouth bass. “Fishing on the ice is a blast,” says Oplinger. “New lakes, new opportunities and new species of fish are waiting for you.”
