Free Storm Spotter Training

Weather enthusiasts in the Vernal area will finally have their chance to become an official storm spotter for the National Weather Service. Classes have been offered throughout the region but the Vernal class had been unscheduled and delayed throughout the spring and summer. National Weather Service has just announced however that a free storm spotter training has now been scheduled onThursday, August 11th at the Public Safety Complex 3rd floor training room in Vernal at 6:00pm. The basic training will be followed by an optional advanced class from 8:00 to 9:00pm. The training is being hosted by the Uintah County Office of Emergency Management and taught by National Weather Service representatives from Grand Junction. Kristin Baldwin

Kristin never planned to work in news radio but has thoroughly enjoyed being part of the news team at KVEL. Her love of literature and writing developed in high school which led her to study English Literature and Technical Writing at BYU. She received her BA in English from BYU in 2005 and studied at UVU in Orem for 2 semesters to become a Certified Technical Writer in 2006. Two months after completion she began her dream job of being a stay-at-home mom.  As mother of 2 energetic kids, she began writing from home for the KVEL news team in 2011 and considers it the perfect fit as a full time mom and part time writer.
