Thanks to the hard work of volunteers acquiring a special grant, tonight’s performance of the VernalUTAH Storytelling Festival is free to the public. The Grand Night of Tales being held tonight at the Vernal Middle School Auditorium will be the first night of performances by world class storytellers. “When I was in junior high, I couldn’t wait to go see the festival performances at the high school,” shares committee member Katie Ufford. “My family has been in Vernal for 100 years, and those performances gave me a chance to experience something outside my little world.” 400 festival attendees are expected this year with performers Bil Lepp, Elizabeth Ellis, and Lori Olmstead. The storytellers will also hold assemblies for local students to teach creative writing, build confidence, and encourage literacy. While Thursday’s show is free, it’s worth noting that Friday’s show is entirely different and well worth seeing as well! The festival is entirely nonprofit and all proceeds go to the Uintah School Foundation. Prices for Friday’s show are $3 for students, $5 for adults, and $10 for the whole family. Visit
