Flaming Gorge-Vernal Ranger District Prescribed Burn

by | Sep 8, 2016 | News | 0 comments

A prescribed burn is planned by the Flaming Gorge-Vernal Ranger District for the Red Canyon and North Flank areas on the north slope of the Uinta Mountains this fall. This is a continuation of burning from the spring and previous years. The North Flank burn will consist solely of Forest Service lands on the west side of Flaming Gorge-Vernal Ranger District on the Ashley National Forest. It is expected to cover 2,000 acres within Daggett and Summit Counties, about 20 miles southwest of Manila. Forest staff will be monitoring the project area and the burn is expected to take place “from mid-September until weather conditions preclude burning.” Local forest fire staff will be executing the prescribed burn. “Conducting prescribed burns at regular intervals,” shares the Forest Service, “benefit ponderosa pine ecosystems and create healthier, more resilient forests.”
