It is American Heart Month andUintah Basin Healthcare wants to remind residents of the Basin to take good care of theirs. To help keep your heart healthy know your heart health numbers. What are those? Know your blood pressure number, know your cholesterol numbers and know your family heart health history. One in three adults in the U.S. has high blood pressure. It’s important to know what your blood pressure is and if it falls in the normal range, which is below 120/80. There are three different facets to your cholesterol that your provider will measure: HDL (the “good” kind), LDL (the “bad” kind), and triglycerides (fat used to store excess energy from the foods you eat). Genetics, environment, and lifestyle factors play a role in your personal health, so having a family heart health history will give your provider a way to identify in what ways your heart might be at a higher risk.
