There were many students and organizations to recognize at the start of the Uintah School Board meeting held last Wednesday, May 8th. The Uintah FFA Floriculture Team was recognized for their first-place finish at state competition. The team is now preparing for the 2019 National FFA Convention coming up in October. Members of the Uintah High Weightlifting Team were also recognized. The team placed 2nd at state competition with five lifters earning state titles in their weight classes, seven finishing in second place, five finishing in third place, and three finishing in fourth place. Quinten Bingham won the Pound-for-Pound Strongest Man Award and Kyla Johnson won the Pound-for-Pound Strongest Woman Award. The team’s success is especially noteworthy as this is their first year competing. Members of the Uintah High DECA Club were recognized for their placing and performing so well at State and Nationals this year. Among many awards, Uintah placed third in Chapter of the Year. A special student presentation was also made for the board members with a trio of Uintah seniors demonstrating their portable ‘augmented reality’ interactive geography tool that they designed and built. All in attendance were impressed by the young men’s creation.
