The Utah Department of Corrections investigation is ongoing after the removal of state inmates from the Daggett County Jail last week after allegations of misconduct surfaced. According to the Daggett County Sheriff’s Office, 80 state inmates were removed from the jail on Friday, February 17th, and 2 employees have been put on administrative leave during the investigation. Several weeks ago, Daggett County Sheriff Jerry Jorgensen notified the Utah Department of Corrections of a situation he had been made aware of and asked them to investigate, citing inmate safety and taking all allegations seriously. Having the jail sit empty is a loss of funds to Daggett County. The jail at full capacity of 80 inmates brings in $4,160 dollars a day, shares Sheriff’s Office Manager Susie Potter. The Utah Department of Corrections has provided no definitive timeline on the investigation but has assured Daggett County that it will be conducted in as timely a manner as possible.
