DWR Recommending More Black Bear Hunting Permits

by | Nov 20, 2017 | News | 0 comments

The Division of Wildlife Resources is recommending more black bear hunting permits and public input is welcome. According to DWR biologists, the black bear population is doing extremely well in Utah with the number of black bears almost tripling in the last 20 years. The number of permits issued this past season gave hunters a chance to take 758 black bears in the state and for the upcoming season biologists are recommending that 860 permits be issued. Not every hunter will take a bear, notes the DWR, so the number actually taken will likely be around 400 bears. In 2017, out of 758 permits issued, 365 bears were taken. Input is welcome at the Regional Advisory Council meeting scheduled for
December 14th at 6:30pm
at the Northeastern Region Office,
318 North Vernal Avenue
