Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office Warns of Scammers Posing as Utility Company

The Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office is urging Basin residents to beware of scammers posing as employees of Dominion Energy. “The complainants said the caller threatened to shut their gas off if they didn’t pay their outstanding balance in full immediately,” shares the Sheriff’s Office. “The caller then instructed the person to buy ‘money packet cards’ worth several hundreds of dollars at the local Family Dollar and read the card number to them over the phone, giving the scammer access to the money on the card.” This is a scam! If you ever receive a call demanding payment, hang up the phone. If you have been victimized by this scam, call the Sheriff’s Office.
