Discovery Elementary Sidewalk Project

Pickup and dropoff at Discovery Elementary in Vernal can be a bit of a nightmare and unfortunately the new sidewalk project expected to help alleviate the chaos will not be constructed in time for the new school year. According to Vernal City Mayor Sonja Norton, the delay in construction has been outside the City’s control. “A lot of us thought it would be in but it is federally funded through Safe Schools,” shares Norton, “and that federal process is the reason it is not in yet.” Vernal City was awarded about $195,000 dollars for the project from the UDOT Safety Sidewalk program for curb, gutter and sidewalk to improve pedestrian flow of students to and from the school. where the project engineers along with Vernal City will present the conceptual design and answer any questions about the project and its delay. The project is scheduled for construction to begin after the 2016-2017 school year ends.
