Uintah County Commissioners approved with apprehension the funding for indigent attorney services for the defense of one of the men facing charges for raping a 9-year-old Vernal girl on Easter

Sunday

. 8th District Court appointed Salt Lake attorney Loni F. Deland to represent the defense in the case. The county attorney could not serve on the defense due to a conflict of interest leaving the county financially responsible for whoever the court appointed. As explained during

Monday’s

meeting, the projected cost to the county for Loni Deland’s legal services is $15,000 dollars and $1,500 dollars per hour if the case goes to trial. Obligated by law to provide for the criminal defense, the Commissioners approved the motion for the indigent attorney funding. In July, both charges against 20-year-old Josiah Rondeau were Dismissed without Prejudice, meaning charges can be made again in the future.  Court records show that Larson James Rondeau is being represented by Clint E. Hendricks and Jerry Neal Flatlip is being represented by Gregory M. Lamb. This leaves Randall A. Flatlip who is being represented by Loni Deland. Each of the men face charges of 1st Degree Felony Rape of a Child and Sodomy on a Child. Randall Flatlip also faces 74 counts of 2nd Degree Felony Sexual Exploitation of a Minor related to child pornography.
