The Uintah County Commission approved a construction contract for the Vernal Regional Airport runway project. W.W. Clyde out of Orem was awarded the contract to run from November of this year through 2018. The cost of the new runway is covered by a 95 percent grant through the FAA that amounts to around $14 million dollars. The County’s portion of 5 percent has been budgeted through the Uintah Transportation Special Service District and will cost between $700,000 and $800,000 dollars. “We’ve worked for many years to make improvements to the Vernal Regional Airport,” shared Commissioner Mike McKee, who emphasized that the runway will be expanded in length to accommodate larger aircraft and will result in better air service.
