A local former coach will be honored this week by the Utah High School Activities Association with a Distinguished Service Award. Coach Robin McClellan has been selected as Utah’s 2016 4A Coach of the Year and will be presented with her award at a ceremony on Wednesday in Orem. The 2015-2016 season was Coach McClellan’s final year of leading the Uintah U’ettes drill team. Based on the program she built and the record achieved, it is no surprise UHSSA is taking the opportunity to honor Coach McClellan and her contribution to high school sports in the state of Utah. McClellan coached drill for 15 years and earned a total of 13 state championships. 4 of those were secured while coaching at Bountiful High School while the remaining 9 came while coaching at Uintah High School. “I was totally humbled and honored to receive this award because I know there are so many amazing coaches,” shares McClellan. “I feel great about what we accomplished at Uintah High School and loved seeing the kids grow and mature every year, becoming more responsible and accountable as they became adults. I have absolutely loved working in this community.” McClellan continues to teach social dance as a part time teacher at Uintah High School and has been so impressed by the new U’ettes coaching staff who are former dancers she coached.
