Vernal is a hotspot for little baseball stars and their families this week with the 9U tournament going on for the Pacific Southwest Region of Cal Ripken Baseball. 12 teams of these serious little leaguers came to compete this week including 4 from Utah, 5 from California, 2 from Arizona and 1 from Nevada. “The tournament is going great,” shares event organizer Kam Pope. “Vernal played tough and won 2 games before getting beat out.” In non-tournament play, Vernal played an exciting gameThursday night against the Scottsdale, Arizona team winning with 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning. Vernal hit a double to the fence followed by a home run over the fence breaking the 2 to 2 tie and giving Vernal a 5 to 2 win. The exciting game was followed by fireworks.
