Burbot Bash Gets Bigger Every Year

An annual event on Flaming Gorge Reservoir is packed with excessive fun and prizes this year. The Burbot Bash combines the thrill of competition with cash prizes while removing a species that threatens the Flaming Gorge fishery. “This annual event gets bigger every year,” shares Tonya Kieffer, Regional Conservation Outreach Manager for the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources. “It’s the perfect way to have fun and catch fish while helping manage the great fishery at Flaming Gorge Reservoir.” While the event is on schedule, wildlife officials are also reminding everyone to make safety a priority on the ice. “Be careful,” shares DWR biologist Ryan Mosley. “With the latest cold front, ice made a rapid move down lake. But, while fishing on some new ice last week, I saw the thickness go from 5 inches to 2 inches without any warning…If they aren’t careful, those using ATVs could get into trouble pretty quick.” The Burbot Bash will be held on January 20th through the 22nd.
