Representative Rob Bishop is heading an effort aimed at balancing the interests between federal and local governments. As Chairman of the Speaker’s Task Force on Intergovernmental Affairs, Bishop held a hearing on Thursday to ask the question: “Are We ‘Federalizing’ Federalism?” to explore state and local government and interrelations with federal government. Heather Gerken of Yale Law School was among the testimonies submitted during the hearing. She emphasized that federalism of today is different from that of the nation’s fathers and that “today’s federalism represents a middle ground between the two camps.” The Task Force on Intergovernmental Affairs was created by Speaker Paul Ryan and Nancy Pelosi as a bipartisan effort to find common ground and balance interests between federal and local governments moving forward.
