Starvation Reservoir is the place to be this Saturday for a day of fishing and major prizes at the ‘Snow Dog Ice Addiction’ ice fishing tournament. According to event coordinator Will Dykstra, the ice is 8 ½ to 10 inches thick depending where you are. At the boat ramp where the tournament is taking place, the conditions are safe with good, hard ice. Dykstra says this event is the funnest and fairest tournament because it uses a unique system of pre-drilled holes squared off in a grid system. No shelters are allowed and as soon as a fish is caught it is brought to the warming hut where it is weighed in right then and put in a release tank. There are cash prizes for the 30 heaviest fish with the lowest cash prize value at $250. The grand prize winner will receive $3000 and a SnowDog tracked vehicle, which is like a motorized team of sled dogs that pulls you and all your equipment on a sled. Dykstra says this is a family event for the novice as well as the expert in ice fishing. There will be free hot drinks and cinnamon rolls inside the warming hut and prize drawings and games in addition to the fishing competition. Register at
